Résumé La chanson anglaise était déjà célèbre bien avant les Beatles : les Fab Four voici quatre siècles s’appelaient Dowland, Purcell, Lawes, Campion, s’accompagnaient aussi de guitares ou de luths, poussant la chansonnette à l’intention des belles du jour. Naturellement, entre l’élisabéthain Dowland, le baroque Locke et son élève, le jacobéen baroque tardif Purcell, les styles ont largement évolué, mais l’esprit élégiaque représente un véritable fil conducteur entre ces oeuvres. Rien que de très grandes beautés dans ce CD, très joliment chanté par le contreténor Robin Blaze, l’une des grandes stars de la voix baroque actuelle.
